In all sports, there are some events that just exemplify how good the competition can look to the rest of the world. Horse racing has the Kentucky Derby. Baseball, the World Series. And soccer, the World Cup. But in disc golf, it would be difficult to match the prestige and honor that is now universally associated with the Presidents Cup team competition.
Originating as the brainchild of Finland’s Jussi Meresmaa and Janne Kotka, the Presidents Cup has grown into a phenomenon that captures the imagination of disc golf fans and players alike. This is an event that only a select few disc golfers will ever make in their lifetime. Five men and two women from Europe and the United States each will qualify, while one man is selected by their respective team captains to complete the squad.
DiscGolfPlanet.tv has been invited to handle the media coverage of the event again in 2011 on Wednesday, July 20th. Director of Field Operations, Terry Roddy, will in Nokia, Finland to coordinate, not only an international crew that will be producing the event, but a Live Internet broadcast that DiscGolfPlanet.tv will be hosting and directing, both from Finland and from the United States.
“With the technology that is now available across the Internet, we have the resources to provide real-time broadcasting from the beautiful venue in Nokia,” explained Dr. John G. Duesler, Jr., Executive Producer of DiscGolfPlanet.tv. “I will admit that coordinating this show across 7 time zones may present a challenge, but with the very talented camera operators and video personnel in Finland being guided by Terry, I am confident we’ll produce a show that Jussi will be proud of.”
Final details on the start-time of the broadcast are still be worked out, but with the time difference, disc golf fans should expect to see live show from Finland on July 20th sometime between 11:00 am EDT and 3:00 pm EDT.
