At DiscGolfPlanet.tv, we are privileged to have the most talented broadcast personnel in all our sport! Here is a chance to meet some of them now!
Dr. John G. Duesler, Jr., Executive Producer: Now in his 24th year promoting disc golf, Duesler cut his teeth in the Mid-Atlantic Region, which is rich in the history of our sport. From writing club constitutions, to being one of the first online registration portals, to creating disc golf’s first secured-server with the Disc Sports Resource Center in 1997, Dr. John finally took on the awesome responsibility of running the 2005 PDGA Pro Worlds in Allentown, for which he was named PDGA Co-Tournament Director of the Year. He leveraged his passion and accomplishments into the PDGA Director of Marketing position from 2006 to 2010, but he now spends his time working on DiscGolfPlanet.tv. So far, his work with DiscGolfPlanet.tv has helped the sport get the attention of a growing number of corporate suitors, who are poised to include The Planet in their 2012 promotional budgets.
OUR TALENT:
“Crazy” John Brooks: This 2009 PDGA Hall of Fame inductee has added a true anchor to our broadcasts. Hailing from one of the true disc golf Mecca’s on the entire planet, Kansas City’s own Brooks has long been a staple in the disc sports community. His tour with the Bud Light Frisbee Team is one of the major coups in the history of sports promotion, and it groomed Brooks as he spent significant time in front of the camera with on-air personalities around the world. With a rock-solid delivery, biting sense of humor, and a profound knowledge of the game, “Crazy” is not just a great broadcaster, but as truly one of the top ambassadors in all of disc sports!
David Greenwell: One of the most prolific, and underrated, sports cities in the United States, one of Louisville’s top sports figures is not a baseball player, boxer, or football coach. It is southern gentleman David Greenwell, who makes everyone’s short list of the top disc golfers of all-time. Greenwell’s relaxed manner on the set belies his intense passion for disc golf, whether in front of the camera, on the green preparing for a 35-footer, or helping organize World-class events for the rest of us to enjoy. Having David Greenwell on our team gives us instant credibility.
Rebecca Duffy: Having Rebecca Duffy join our DiscGolfPlanet.tv team at the 2011 Memorial Championship presented by Discraft was truly a breath of fresh air. Duffy has long been a leading promoter of disc golf, but from her Eugene, Oregon refuge, she remained relatively off the national radar. It was her 2010 Bob West Memorial Sportsmanship award that introduced many to Duffy, but it is her astute field reporting, sparkling personality, and dedication to the DiscGolfPlanet.tv broadcasts that has made her one of our fan favorites on every broadcast.
Terry Miller: Making a new name for himself as The Disc Golf Guy, Terry Miller has been hanging around disc golf for his entire adult life, and most of his childhood. The Pewaukee, Wisconsin native, Miller will do anything in his power to tell the great story about disc golf. Building courses, educating the youth, standing for hours at trade shows, and running a dozen top events a year…Terry’s tireless promotion of disc golf has earned him the 2008 EDGE Leadership award just a couple years after directing one of the most successful PDGA Amateur World Championships in Milwaukee in 2006. He knows the players’ tendencies. He knows the players’ histories. He knows the players’ personalities. All of this combined, makes Terry Miller one of the most insightful contributors to, not just DiscGolfPlanet.tv, but to our entire sport.
OUR CREW:
Terry Roddy, Field Technical Manager: When disc golf looks to receive guidance and advice on how to broadcast or video any of our biggest events, Terry Roddy has long been the person we have counted on. The early days at the United States Disc Golf Championship, the 1993 PDGA World Champs in Huntsville, Alabama, and a number of Japan Opens do not even scratch the surface of all the media work Roddy has done for disc golf. Roddy’s work on the PGA Tour for the last 15 years has translated nicely into helping disc golf be presented on screen in the best possible light. Most importantly, however, Terry has shown an untiring commitment to helping get disc golf over the top, as we move our great game closer-and-closer to television broadcasting. For now, however, DiscGolfPlanet.tv is more than happy to have Roddy running the show in the field.
Patrick Brogdon: Originally brought to the 2009 United States Disc Golf Championship broadcast as an extra cameraman, Patrick quickly proved his worth to DiscGolfPlanet.tv by stepping in wherever he was needed. More importantly, he excelled at everything he was called upon to do. Graphics, audio, engineering…Houston, Texas’s Brogdon has been a quiet, but invaluable, piece to the early success at DiscGolfPlanet.tv.
Jim Myers: One of disc golf’s true tinkerers, Jim Myers rarely finds a piece of technology he does not like. Primarily designated as our satellite engineer, Myers has spread his wings into almost every part of the broadcast. From our radio frequency camera link, to our audio engineering, to jumping in behind a camera and providing some incredible views, Jim Myers provides some of the most critical services to DiscGolfPlanet.tv…that no one ever knows about!
Ian Goldstein: When we are producing our live events, often times its the work of Ian Goldstein that leaves us in awe. His seemingly natural talent at framing up his shots, as well as getting the best angles is something that have even the most experienced camera operators saying, “You really know what you are doing Ian!” Here, here! And we are so pleased to have him at DiscGolfPlanet.tv.
Rich Dobson: It is not uncommon for live field producers to rely on Craig’s List hires to fill in some of the empty spots around a show. What is uncommon is to find someone as skilled as Rich Dobson. Hailing from Rock Hill, South Carolina, Dobson showed up at the 2010 USDGC to help us by “pointing” with the RF camera link. But when we unleashed him into other areas, like working a camera, electrician work, and more, Richie showed that he has the chops for live broadcasting. Dobson is a real asset to our work at DiscGolfPlanet.tv.
Jonny van Deurzen: A real trooper at our productions, Jonny V. has stepped into multiple roles during our live productions. His incredible technological prowess allows us to just point Jonny in the right direction and watch him go. Hailing from near Milwaukee, van Deurzen is but one of our most valuable players from Wisconsin. He is a joy to be around, and it’s even more enjoyable to watch him work.
Chris Cobb: Before we even asked for help at the 2011 Memorial Championship in Fountain Hills, Arizona, Chris called me personally to say, “I’d like to help with your broadcast. I’ll do whatever you need.” And Cobb was true to his word, working long, hot days in the Arizona desert, without as much as a single gripe or complaint. Many of us consider the 2011 Memorial to be our best broadcasting weekend yet…and Chris Cobb played a huge role in making that happen.
PHOTOGRAPHER
Lauren Lakeberg: With her great passion for disc golf, Lauren adds her outstanding talent in photography for an unbeatable combination. For so long we had the blinders on our video cameras providing some of the best streaming in all of disc golf. Yet, when we looked back upon some of our shows, we realized something was missing…the still photography that can often times be as powerful (and useful) as the video streams. Lakeberg has worked tirelessly, and often without much field support, to bring our DiscGolfPlanet.tv fans some of the behind the scenes views that help us all appreciate how much goes into broadcasting live sports.
